If you trade regularly, you know a distinct feeling well: you’re looking at an analysis or a piece of news that directly conflicts with what you know to be true. Now, when I say know, I don’t mean logically or factually. I mean something you know to be true in your gut. A good recent example is Tesla. For every Tesla evangelist, there were a hundred detractors. And online, there were so many ready to laugh at the prospect of Tesla hitting the lofty numbers people inside and outside of the company were spouting. Many people jumped in on Tesla, and many did not. The people who took the leap, ignoring the advice of experts, trusting their guts, are now much wealthier than those who played it safe. Of course, for every Tesla, there are perfect counterexamples. That’s why I’m posing the question above: is it better to trust your gut, or trust the experts? After many missed opportunities and home runs following both, I’ve realized that the answer, like so many things, is somewhere in the middle. But the question then becomes: how do I know who the right experts are? Who are the analysts that are worth considering over your gut? The system I’ve built is all about leveraging the information of experts—both professional and amateur—and combining it with my gut instinct. This equation of sorts has led me to much greater success than blindly following what’s being said or going rogue based on hunches. At first, this was a very time consuming process. There is, after all, a superabundance of information on the internet about every stock you could possibly imagine. And for every deep dive analysis, there are dozens of comments calling everything into question. Fortunately, I discovered a service that synthesized all of the information I could ever want. And, even better, it costs less than going out to dinner. Chaikin Analytics combines the expert opinions of world-class analysts, comprehensive algorithmic analyses of the markets, and an active news feed to create an ecosystem of information that helps me stay in touch with what people are thinking and help me better inform my gut feelings. And for only $25 a month. All of this—from the easy-to-read graphs and charts to the crisply written newsletters—is great, but what I like most about Chaikin Analytics is that it is part of the Score Priority Store ecosystem, which includes Score Priority, a social network for traders. With Score Priority, I’m able to read people’s takes any time I want. To me, this is essential because these people are just like me. They’re not stuffy Wall Street suits. They’re people with real skin in the game. The answer then becomes that I should trust my gut first and foremost, so long as my gut is supported by raw numbers, smart analyses and a one of a kind community.
