As the coronavirus shutdown spreads to new cities and states, millions of Americans are losing their jobs all at once. That means there are millions of Americans at home with nothing to do other than feeling anxious about their bank accounts. If you’re one of them, you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you’re not one of them, you undoubtedly know someone who has lost his or her job. With millions of people exiting the work force, that means that, eventually, millions will be re-entering the workforce at once. The question then becomes this: how can you get ahead during this downtime? I’ve put together a list of resources that can either make you money or make you better prepared to rejoin the workforce. 1) Adobe Suite One of the most valued resume builders possible, the Adobe Suite facilitates everything from photo editing to illustration and so much beyond. If you’ve applied for a white collar job before, you’ve certainly seen this under preferred qualifications. While the Adobe Suite is normally expensive, Adobe is offering free access to parts of the suite until May 31st due to the coronavirus. Now’s the perfect time to learn some hard skills. 2) Try2BFunded Ever wanted to get into online trading but have no idea how? Here’s your answer. Try2BFunded is a uniquely profitable prop trader that lets you gain access to $100,000 to trade with while you take home 60% of the profits. That’s right, you use their money and keep the profits. There’s a catch, but it’s a small one: first you have to prove that you can trade well enough to get access to the $100,000. But this “catch” also offers an opportunity to learn how to trade. Using their simulator, you can build multiple portfolios and test strategies as you learn on the go. Once you make it past the qualifying round—which usually take 4-6 weeks, depending on how savvy you are—you get access to all that dough. 3) Duolingo What employer doesn’t love a bilingual worker? With the increasing globalization of white collar work, it’s important to be able to speak across continents. You’ve probably heard about Duolingo, but it really is a great resource for picking up fundamentals of a new language. In creating quick, engaging lessons and a points and rewards system, Duolingo makes learning a new language fun and addicting. Additionally, little daily tasks like this are a great way to add structure to these unstructured times. 20 minutes a day can really take you far. Plus, imagine the exotic travel you’ll be able to do when this is all over! 4) Coding Bootcamps Coding is rapidly becoming the essential skill to know to be a worthy candidate. If you’re like many Americans, you didn’t receive a coding education in High School or college. Fortunately, there are a plethora of options that will take you from the basics to expertise. Depending on your financial opportunities, there’s something for everyone. So get to learning.
