The 3 Best Investing Blogs Online

As a blog-writer, I’m deeply invested in the culture of blogging. And, as a blog-reader, I was long skeptical of what blogs could really bring. With anyone able to share their opinion, was I getting bad information or, worse, getting taken advantage of?

And, to be certain, there are plenty of bad blogs out there. Writers with agendas or bad takes, not to mention bad grammar. And many blogs that are like so much content today: harmless but ultimately ineffectual.

Because of the amount of time I spend reading other people’s blogs—looking for inspiration and looking to better my own craft—I wanted to give some shoutouts to the blogs that I admire most. The name of the investing game is knowledge. I can confidently say I learn from these varied writers week after week.

  1. Farnam Street

Farnam street approaches investing differently than virtually anyone else on this list. Instead of focusing on specifics, they manage to take you into the macro of investing. This blog is perfect for those who want to apply broad thinking to the specifics of their portfolio.

This kind of meta learning is hard to come by. While, in the short term, it might seem as though it’s less productive than learning about certain sectors or up and coming stocks, ultimately it lets you learn more as a thinker.

2) Chaikin Analytics Blog

The Chaikin Analytics Blog manages to combine the expert opinions of their superstar staff with hard-data in a straightforward, easy-to-read manner. With multimedia articles aplenty, I like that the Chaikin Analytics blog has something for everyone.

Anchored by Dan Russo, the Chaikin Analytics blog manages to relay information deftly for investors at all levels. Whether you’re a beginner or a two-decade expert, you’re guaranteed to learn something new.

All of this combined with their one-of-a-kind PowerGauge, which helps give you a precise look at which way stocks are trending, makes a subscription to Chaikin feel like second nature.

3) Rit Holtz

Are you a visual learner over a reader? Then Rit Holtz’s blog is your new go-to for anything related to investment.

By building a learning system out of sharing detailed infographics and graphs, Rit Holtz makes abstract data practical in a matter of moments. This blog stands out to me because most blogs relay information two ways: through incredible dry, dense writing, or through charismatic personality that has little beneath the surface. Of course, there are dozens of exceptions, but that’s how it seems to play out, generally.

But with Rit Holtz’s blog, one can digest information more intuitively than ever. He's found a way to combine the way we consume info on the internet with a conventional blog.

These blogs are part of the lifeblood of my research for daily investing. They make learning, and earning, easier than ever before.
